Meander 2: Braided Rivers
These slip cast pitchers have mishima inscriptions related, on the Tallapoosa side, to the terra nullius British law and U.S. manifest destiny, indigenous towns and treaties with the US, the damming of the river (Putting Loafing Streams to Work) with the effects of impoundment, the timber monoculture. On the Coosa side, the themes are indigenous towns, Alabama land fever, enslavement, the cotton monoculture, and impoundment. Our matriarchical lineage is pictured for each river. These images are from the museum installation, my studio, and at the school after a load was fired.
